GOODBYE, WEC

The WEC has officially left the building, but not without a fond farewell. Its final minutes of life, The Last Extreme Cage Fight, was truly a spectacle to behold, unleashing upon the world not just one of the best fights of the year, but also one of the flashiest strikes in all MMA history:

THE LAST EXTREME CAGE FIGHT

On the evening of December 16, 2010 at the Jobing.com Arena at Glendale Arizona, the Last Extreme Cage Fight occurred. In it, two lightweight fighters entered the cage in order to compete for the chance to be included in the history books, as the last ever WEC lightweight champion. Both fighters knew what was on the line, and they went for it, all out.

ERIK KOCH VS. FRANCISCO RIVERA 

WEC 52 REVIEW PART 1

I almost missed this one as I had completely forgotten the date, which is why I didn't post my predictions. Good thing I remembered at the last minute, though, because this was certainly another great night of fights, which is pretty typical for the WEC.

THE MAIN EVENT:

URIJAH FABER VS. TAKEYA MIZUGAKI

UFC AND WEC TO OFFICIALLY MERGE

Dana White has just announced that the UFC and WEC will officially merge in January, 2011. White states that the timing is just right since the UFC is becoming more and more global, so adding in the other divisions from the WEC (Bantamweight and Featherweight) to make the shows bigger and better would serve only serve to further the organization's current goals. He also states that the Flyweight division (125 lbs) will also be added sometime down the road.

WEC 50 REVIEW PART 2: THE MAIN CARD

As I mentioned in the first part of my review of WEC 50, a good majority of the fights in this organization of lighter-weight warriors are composed of wild, nonstop, brutal action for 3 or 5 rounds straight. This is true for the main event, and this is true for most of the main card as well.

WEC 50 REVIEW PART 1: THE MAIN EVENT

I actually only began watching WEC events less than a year ago, so I'm not nearly as familiar with the fighters as I am with the ones from the UFC. Seeing as the organization has reached the magic number 50, though, I feel that it's high time I threw in my own thoughts about this particular MMA organization.
